Chapter 13 Parents
Fern gave a cold giggle and said, “Sure I know him.”
So it really was Jaden who did this to her!
“You don’t only know him, but you have been dating since your junior year right?” The president kept asking, and he continued when he saw Fern’s face expression, “We don’t mind college students dating, but now your boyfriend is accusing you of being a mistress, isn’t that evidence?”
Fern hesitated for a while, then she finally found her voice again, “So what you mean is your evidence is Jaden’s insult?”
She understood.
“Insult? Do you think this is an insult?” The college president’s expression was unexpected.
“No, it’s not me thinking it is an insult, it really is one. Why would you believe him instead of me?” Fern asked him in return.
All the other professors were looking at each other, startled by Fern, but not because they started believing her, or they were touched by her words, but because they were wondering why she still didn’t admit what she has done.
“Are you still dating Mister Jaden?” The president asked.
“No, I broke up.” Fern didn’t understand why he would want to know that, and answered with the truth.
The president went on, “It’s because you are a mistress now, so you broke up with him, right?”
“What?” Fern was startled, “Is that what Jaden told you? And you believe what he said?” If she wasn’t in the president’s office being interrogated, she would have thought these people were hired by Jaden to convince her get back with him.
This was way out of the line!
“Miss Woods, there is no need to deny it anymore, we don’t really care about what happened between you and Jaden, but you have influenced college life already with your story!” The president was accusing her.
“You are all determined to accuse me of something I haven’t done, aren’t you?” If there were only one or two professors here, she would have thought that Jaden must have bribed them, but there were so many of them, even if Jaden had the courage, he wouldn’t have the finances.
“We are not accusing you of anything, this is the truth!” The president said, “Your situation has too huge of an influence, we hope that your parents can come for a talk.”
“I don’t have parents.” Fern never had to invite her parents since kindergarten, this was her first time.
The president was not going to take more of her non cooperative attitude, and he warned her, “If you are not going to call your parents, our punishment for you might be to expel you, and it will all be in your records!”
Fern’s anger was accumulating in her chest, this might just be her worst year ever.
“Sure, I am gonna call them.” She sighed, and took out her phone to call Jaxon.
Because of this, Fern was absolutely disappointed in the school, and in the professors, but she still had to stay there to study, and she will have to live there for another few years. She had no one to lean on, so all she was counting on was this graduation.
If she was expelled now, and they wrote this in her records, there was no way for her to make a career out of it.
It was almost time for Lunch break, and Jaxon was home early, preparing to have lunch with his wife, and daughter. Just then, he got a phone call from Fern, when he was sitting at the table with Amira and Cleo.
“What are you saying? Fern was acting out in school and I have to come?” Jaxon thought this must have been a prank call. Fern has been in school for so long and even in her puberty, he was never called into school for anything, and now that she was already a college student, he got a call to see the professors?
Jaxon was too surprised, he yelled the words out loud, and of course both Amira and Cleo heard it all.
Fern who was still sitting in the office was speechless. Just as Jaxon picked up the call, the president took her phone out of her hands, and talked to him personally.
She didn’t have to see Jaxon to know how startled he must have been to hear those news.
Jaxon just left the house, when Cleo was rolling on the couch laughing.
“Did you hear that, Mom? Dad just got a phone call from Fern’s professors, she is already in college, and they are asking for her parents to come, oh my god, did you see Dad’s face just now? I almost laughed out loud!” Cleo has been enduring Fern for a couple of days now, and this finally helped her relieve some of it.
Amira seemed to be really happy about that too, but she was much further than Cleo in her mind.
“Since the situation was almost brought to us, I think we should use it.” Amira’s eyes were brightening as she was planning something in her mind.
Cleo sat up straight, “But how?”
“You need to ask Jaden, why Fern had to call her dad.” Amira said to her.
“Okay!” Cleo took out her phone to call Jaden, but she didn’t expect her call not to go through, he must have blocked her number.
She thought Jaden was one of those men who would only say the words, but not take action. Now Jaden actually didn’t want to be in contact with her anymore!
It didn’t matter though, because Cleo had Khalid’s private number.
She found it in her father’s phone, maybe he was afraid that Jaxon would contact him about Fern, so he gave him his private number.
Khalid was still sitting in his office, his assistant went out to get him lunch, because he was still busy with work.
His private cell started ringing, it was an unknown number, but he picked it up.
“Khalid!” It was Cleo’s voice coming out of his phone, and when he heard it he wanted to hang up immediately.
But Cleo was smart, she knew that Khalid didn’t want to talk to her, so she said quickly, “Wait, Khalid, don’t hang up yet, I have something to tell you, it’s about Fern, and it’s really important.”
“Go ahead.” If she hadn’t mentioned Fern’s name, he would have hung up already.
“Don’t be mad after I tell you, Fern is in trouble in college, they called for her parents, my father just got a phone call and almost knocked over in anger. That girl really keeps us worried, I really think she is not good enough...” Cleo didn’t even finish yet when Khalid interrupted her.
“Miss Woods, please call me Mister Marsh in the future, we are not that close, if you call me by name people might misunderstand.” When he finished, he didn’t even give Cleo another chance to talk and hung up the phone.
Cleo was a little surprised and looked at her phone.
Amira heard that she called Khalid, even though she thought it might not be a good idea, but she didn’t stop her.
“What did Mister Marsh say?” Amira asked Cleo when she saw the call was done.
“Nothing at all, he didn’t even ask me anything, I guess he doesn’t care much about Fern after all.” Cleo was a little mad at the way Khalid treated her, but when she thought of him not bothering about her half sister, her mood lit up again.
What Cleo didn’t know was that after the phone call, Khalid blocked her number, and called his assistant.
“Get me information about what happened with Fern in school, now. And I want my car ready to go there.” He still had a lot of work on his desk, but Khalid didn’t even bother to take another look at them, and got up from his chair.
Jaxon arrived at the college quickly, and when the president of the school saw his appearance, he immediately knew that he must be a successful person.
