Chapter 14 Fiance

“So you must be Mister Woods?” The president’s attitude was a little better, and he took a step forwards to shake hands with Jaxon. The other professors were stunned, they thought that the Woods family isn’t doing well, and the parent that Fern called must be some lower class man, but the person they saw in the office was a successful and upper class business man. “Good day professors, I am Fern’s father. I would like to know what happened with her, since there are so many of you attending this meeting?” Jaxon didn’t even look at his daughter after he entered the room. “Mister Woods, you don’t need to be too excited, we can sit down and talk about it.” The president gestured to a chair next to Fern for Jaxon to sit down. Fern sat in her chair and watched the adults talk, while keeping quite on her side. The president introduced himself, and started to talk about Fern’s performances in school, “Miss Woods was performing really well in her classes, and this year she is supposed to be in her third year, since she skipped her second one, she will transfer to senior year....” When the president talked about Fern’s good grades, he also felt proud. Jaxon was always a person who cared a lot about what people thought of him, and hearing the president talk about his daughter in high tones was a good thing for him, he was happy about it. He had no idea that even though he never cared about her, she didn’t give up on herself, and made such a good transformation. The president finished talking about Fern’s good part, and Jaxon added a few words. Then they skipped over to the reason why Jaxon was there. “But Miss Woods has done something that really disappointed us, she has let down all of our hopes in her, and the education we put in her.” The president said filled with indignation. “What do you mean by that?” Jaxon was a little confused about what was happening, when he picked the phone, he thought that Fern had done something, and he had to come in to listen to his accusations. But then the president took his sweet time to praise Fern, which made him think he was called to listen to the praises. But now the conversation took a turn again. “Mister Woods is probably really busy during the days so you don’t have time to care about Fern. She has been reported for being a mistress of someone, and that person even allowed himself to appear in this college in daylight, which has a really bad influence.” The president sighed. “What?!” Jaxon yelled and stood up, looking straight at Fern, he raised his hand and slapped her on the cheek. Fern never thought Jaxon wouldn’t even ask her about it. She had no way to hide from that slap, it came so fast, and so hard that her head was hurting. On her perfect white skin were red marks showing now. Even the professors and the president included were shocked. Jaxon looked like a gentleman, no one expected him to react like this. “So are you going to blame me just like the other ones too?” Fern stood up, her hand holding her cheek, and her ice cold eyes were looking at Jaxon. Jaxon was stunned by himself, the moment he heard the president talk about her being a mistress, the first thing that came to his mind was the wedding arrangements between her and Khalid. If he got wind of that, he would never marry her. This would be the biggest insult of the Woods family towards Khalid, which will be their ruin. But now, he saw the look on Fern’s face, and thought, maybe there was a misunderstanding. “What is going on? Headmaster, I need to know everything that happened.” Jaxon calmed down, and wanted to get to the ground of it. The president told the whole story about Jaden and Fern again, and about the accusation coming from Jaden, which they took as a solid evidence. When Jaxon heard about Fern’s boyfriend, his blood pressure immediately went over the roof, it didn’t matter if it was about Jaden, or the fact that Fern was someone’s mistress, if Khalid knew of any of it, it would ruin the Woods. “Fern, you really disappoint me, I sent you here to study, and you are making yourself a disgrace to the whole family.” Jaxon said, he wanted to beat her again, but this time Fern could hide from it. “You also disappoint me.” Fern said to him, “I thought you could help me out, or at least listen to me, but I guess that’s too much for you.” Jaxon knitted his brows, he didn’t even listen to Fern, the only thing he was thinking about was how to explain things to Khalid, how to save their marriage. “You know what, you can expel me, a place with people like you isn’t a place I wanna stay.” Fern didn’t want to explain anything anymore, since she knew that no one would believe her. “Miss Woods, we asked you to come here so you can admit to your faults, not to act up.” Fern was still a good student after all, if she had the right attitude, they would think about keeping her. “I say it once again, I didn’t do anything wrong, and I am nobody’s mistress!” Fern yelled, turned around and wanted to leave. Jaxon stood in her way, “Stop, you are embarrassing me, apologize to your professors, and tell them that you will never do it again!” He only wanted to keep a low profile on the story now, and hope that it won’t get out of the school, at least Khalid won’t get wind of it. Jaden on the other hand, he already had a plan how to break those two. Anything that stood in the way of Fern getting married to Khalid was not something to keep. “What did my fiance do? Why don’t you let me apologize on behalf of her?” Khalid’s voice entered the room first, before he stepped foot inside. “Mister Marsh!” The president immediately stood up and greeted him, “I didn’t know you would come, otherwise I would have prepared myself!” The president took a while before he understood what Khalid just said. He said Fern was his fiance? And he was Fern’s fiance? When Fern heard his voice, her eyes turned red, she has been interrogated for too long by her teachers, and none of them wanted to believe her, even when her father came, he didn’t want to listen to her explanations. Only Khalid, who was actually still a stranger to her, stood by her side, before he even found out about what happened, before he even set foot in the room. She thought nobody is going to believe her anymore, but there was someone! “Hey little girl!” Khalid saw Fern’s eyes, and felt a sting in his heart. He pulled her into his arms, not allowing anyone to see her red eyes, he knew about her temper, she would not like for anyone to see her like this. “Mister Marsh?” Jaxon saw him, and immediately felt like a bomb just fell on him, his plans of keeping the news from him would never work now that Khalid was there personally. “Well, Mister Woods, if what Mister Marsh just said is true, then he is Miss Woods fiance?” The president’s face expression was not pretty, since Khalid was one of his honored guests, and Fern one of his best students. Now Fern was not a goody girl anymore, and Khalid was in his office personally, how would he solve this mess? “You heard me right, I am her fiance.” Khalid answered for Jaxon. Jaxon was feeling very perturbed, he didn’t even dare to cover up anymore, and before Khalid had to hear the story coming from the college president, he decided to tell him himself. “Mister Marsh, my little girl was acting up badly, she let you down, I am so sorry about it.” Jaxon only hoped that he could apologize in a way for Khalid to forgive them. Fern, who buried her face in Khalid’s chest, started to cry, and her tears landed on his expensive suit.
