Extra ~ Intrusion-Part 1
Young Master Qin’s troubles began three nights past when he was awoken by the sound of banging on the doors to his estate. Eventually, he forced a servant to look outside, and the terrified servant relayed that the one knocking on the door was a corpse in burial robes, messy-haired and covered in blood.
Young Master Qin relays this information to none other than Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, and Lan Sizhui.
Lan Sizhui asks if there is no better description, and Young Master Qin says there is not, labeling his servant a coward.
Wei Wuxian then asks if he did not look at himself. Young Master Qin confirms this, and Wei Wuxian laments that the Fierce Corpse is likely targeting him, so it is a shame he did not look to recognize it.
Young Master Qin dismisses the notion that he could be the target. After showing them the door, which is in shambles, Wei Wuxian declares that there is no need to exorcise the corpse. The remaining spiritual energy does not indicate a rare, bloodthirsty creature.
Young Master Qin is taken aback, certain that he needs Talismans or swords, but Lan Wangji confirms this. Unless the corpse can jump, he should simply invest in a new door bolt.
Lan Sizhui follows Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian away, leading Lil’Apple. He cannot help but ask if Young Master Qin will be all right.
Wei Wuxian then admits that of course, he will need more assistance. They lied, however, because Young Master Qin was clearly lying.
Young Master Qin is stubborn and cold, but not to sort to scare easily. The fact that he claimed to be too frightened to look outside is strange indeed. In addition, since the resentful energy left on the door did not indicate a desire to kill for revenge, they decided to leave it until Young Master Qin is ready, to tell the truth.
Lan Sizhui asks why Wei Wuxian cannot just summon the corpse. Although Wei Wuxian first claims that a Spirit-Attraction Flag requires too much blood, he then admits that the problem is not whether he can, but whether Lan Sizhui can.
After having been through a series of events, both Lan Sizhui and the other juniors of the Gusu Lan Clan have begun to rely on Wei WuXian a bit too much. Summoning spirits and controlling corpses were indeed the quickest way, but not everyone was able to use such a means. This time, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are training Lan Sizhui to solve mysteries through the ordinary cultivation path.
The three stay in an elegant building owned by the Gusu Lan Clan, the Bamboo Cottage. The next morning, Young Master Qin arrives early at their residence. However, when Lan Sizhui knocks on Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian’s bed-chamber, Lan Wangji shakes his head to indicate that Wei Wuxian will not awaken soon.
Cornered, Lan Sizhui breaks the rules and lies to Young Master Qin, telling him that Wei Wuxian is ill, rather than merely sleeping late.
When Wei Wuxian finally awakens, he accidentally puts on Lan Wangji’s inner robe. Fortunately, Young Master Qin does not notice as he hauls them back to his estate.
Young Master Qin relates that the corpse was able to leap into his courtyard last night and that it had an unusual gait. Lan Wangji deduces that it limped, given the footprints on the ground.
Wei Wuxian explains that one of the corpse’s legs was broken before he died. As a result, he became much stronger in the one leg that he relied on. Hence, after he died, the corpse was still able to leap very high.
Young Master Qin says that he will redo the locks on his doors, but Lan Wangji says it will be futile, as "no precedent shall be set."
Wei Wuxian elaborates on the jargon: when dealing with dark creatures, some defensive tactics can only be once. Now that the door has been breached, the fierce corpse will be able to travel in and out freely from now on, no matter what.
Fortunately, Young Master Qin still has two doors remaining: the doors to his living room and his bedroom.
Young Master Qin asks for a talisman to suppress the corpse. To Lan Sizhui’s confusion, Wei Wuxian explains that suppression can backfire, though he makes suppression sound far more complex and challenging than it actually is. Lan Wangji, however, simply lets Wei Wuxian talk.
Wei Wuxian concludes that he can indeed give Master Qin a talisman, but only if he honestly answers whether he knew the corpse before his death.
Young Master Qin hesitates but eventually replies that he did
