Chapter 9
"What the hell are you doing?" We struggled to let go. "Let go of me!" I exclaimed. They dragged us back to Edward.
"I was wondering why the drink didn’t work. You would have been choking to death the minute after you drank that." He said calmly.
"What are you doing, Henderson? I didn’t expect this from you." Stefano voiced out. Edward’s men put a gun to our heads.
"You should have drank it, Stefano. Tsk. Tsk. I wanted to avoid bloodshed here." He said with a disappointment.
"What do you want, Edward?" Stefano asked. Edward walked towards him. "I want you to sign the contract." Stefano frowned. "The contract that you rejected a month ago."
"You’re behind that Colussus project?" Edward only stared at him. "I didn’t know you have some illegal business in your sleeve, Henderson. Why do you think I rejected it? Do you think I’m stupid not to do my research? That project is a huge cover for the real plan. I’m not gonna sign some deal that involves human trafficking, Henderson." Stefano glared at him. My eyes widened when I heard what he said.
Edward turned to me. His eyes burned with rage. I acted to be scared helpless woman. He grabbed my hair and pulled it heard. I groaned from pain. I’m gonna fucking murder this guy right now.
"Sign it, Ranallo, or I’ll kill your woman." He growled.
"Let her go, Henderson. She doesn’t know anything about this." He growled back.
"Then sign it!" He yelled. His grip on my hair tightened.
I have enough of this!
I punched Edward hard on his face. He fell down. I stepped on my captor’s foot. He let go of me and I elbowed his stomach. He groaned in pain. I finished him by hitting his neck. I quickly stole the gun from his hand and aimed to Edward. I glanced at Stefano almost forgetting him. The guard that held him was already lying on the floor unconscious. He raised his eyebrows. "What?" He asked.
I looked down at Edward. "I don’t know what to say in this kind of situation." I said. I noticed Stefano coming towards us. He stood beside me.
"So the woman is your bodyguard." Edward said.
"I am his date, asshole." He suddenly charged towards me. He snatched the gun from my hand and kicked me in my stomach. Stefano caught me so I wouldn’t fall down the ground. I was caught off guard when Edward did that. I should’ve shot him the second I thought of it.
"I’m giving you a chance to put down the gun, Henderson. A chance to spare your life." He growled as he was covering me from his back. This man has always been grumpy, impassive and intimidating... but I’ve never heard him so angry right now. He was calm but he was growling like a lion to his prey. His voice sent shiver down my spine. And I know this man will do the worst if Edward won’t do as he says.
Edward laughed. "You think you’re in charge of this situation, Ranallo but you’re not. I’m gonna kill you and your bitch of a girlfriend here."
His finger on the trigger moved. I was ready to push Stefano away, take cover and make way towards him. I’ll kick his *** and grab the gun, shoot his legs.
"Edward Henderson, I suggest you put the gun down now." We turned to Carson who just came in from the door with bodyguards on his back with guns aiming at Edward. I quickly looked at Edward who was moving his index finger. I pushed Stefano away and we fell on the ground together.
I looked around wondering why I didnt hear any gunshot. I saw Edward lying on the floor who was struggling from his wounds. The gun was no longer held in his hand and was thrown away far. I looked up at Stefano’s men. Their guns have silencer. I realised he was trying to be discreet about all of this. My eyes shifted to my boss. He was glaring at me intensely. I then noticed that I was lying on top of him. I quickly get away from him and got up. He followed.
Edward was groaning and looked at us with hateful eyes. Stefano’s men grab him and held him captive.
"Take care of this, Carson. Make sure this won’t leak to the media." Stefano ordered.
"Of course, sir."
"You will regret this, Ranallo." Edward interrupted.
"The only one who’ll regret this is you, Henderson." He glared at him. He then turned to me and signaled me to follow him. We left the place in a hurry.
I stopped when I saw him walking towards the driver’s side. "Take the front seat." He reached his hand to me and I gave him the keys to his car. When we settled in our seats, he then turned to me glaring so intensely.
"Are you insane?!" I was surprised of his sudden outburst. "What the hell were yout thinking risking your life like that? Your parents trusted me to take care of you. What if you get killed out there?! Were you even thinking?!"
"Wow. Just wow. You’re welcome, Ranallo. I felt appreciated, you know." I said sarcastically as I rolled my eyes. "So you expect me to leave you there and be killed. I have no problem with that actually when you’re so fucking annoying but my conscience don’t, Stefano. That’s what we’re trained to do. I didn’t crawl on mud or getting beat up from sparring just to leave someone to die. Why do you think I graduated on top-" I stopped myself when I say that. Right, I graduated on top of the academy but the news seems pretty useless right now when my parents seemed to abandoned me here with this dickhead.
He frowned." You were top of your class? I didn’t know that."
I sighed. "Whatever. It’s not like you’d care when you investigated me. You were happy enough when my mom and dad kicked me out."
"That wasn’t my intention, Miss White. I was just... you were on my way with my plans." He said softly as if guilt washed him ashore.
"I defended the weak, Stefano. Your ways were too forceful. You’re adding problems to the poor old woman. Just because you have power, Stefano, it doesn’t give you the right to bully the weak." I said.
"I was trying to- you know what? Fine. If you want yourself to get killed, then go. Why do I even bother with someone like you?" He said furiously.
"Yeah, Stefano. Why do you?" I asked with venom. He didn’t asnwer. I unlocked the door and tried to open it. But he locked it again. "Unlock the door, Stefano."
"No. I’m taking you home."
"I said unlock the fucking door."
"No."
"Stefano..." I warned.
He turned to me with a frown. "Do you think I care?"
I came closer to him, our faces inches closer. "You know what... ****.. You." I then pulled away and leaned on my seat.
