Chapter 16
"So have you decided what to wear on that engagement party?" Jenna suddenly slides across the booth right after she served my food and drinks on the table.
"Don’t you have work to do?" I start digging on my grilled cheese tuna sandwich.
"You’re my last customer for today." She smiled at me cheekily.
My brow raised questionably. "But it’s still noon. Half day?"
It’s Sunday today which means it’s my day off. But there would have been times when I got called on Sundays. Like tonight, I’m still going to drive him in Ashton’s engagement party despite being invited myself. It is convenient though. I don’t have to catch a cab.
"Yup." She popped the p. "I’m going shopping today. It’s my friend’s birthday party. Actually... we’re going to a club to celebrate her birthday. It’s a surprise for her. And I want a new dress for clubbing. Wanna come?" She said excitedly.
"No. I’ll pass on that. I hate to meet trouble and it always comes my way. So I’m just gonna stay away for now. And besides, I still have another party, remember?" I put the sandwich down and wipe my mouth with napkin.
"Oh, right. I just said that. That’s a bummer. You’ll be missing the fun. Not like it’s not fun in a party where you barely know anyone there." She stated acting sad for my sake while still dropping the sarcasm. I winced at the fact that she was right. But then her mood suddenly brightens. "On a side note, you can accompany me in shopping!"
When I got home, I dropped the shopping bags roughly on the floor. I lie on the couch in my living room. Shopping with Jenna is exhausting. The girl knows how to shop till you drop. She can even convince me to buy too when I know that I don’t need it. I’ve been avoiding this old habit of mine but when a friend of mine is the same, it just comes back. You are so going to pay for this, Jenna.
I got up and get ready to shower. It’s 5pm and I have to be ready by 6 so I could take Stefano from his apartment. I wouldn’t have been in a rush if Jenna wouldn’t have kept me. She went on a girly date with me. Aside from shopping , we went to watch movies together, ate ice cream, window shopping until it’s not window shopping anymore. I must admit. I miss having a girl friend. One that doesn’t punch or crawl with me in a mud or even hold a gun. Or one that doesn’t stab me in the back or because I was one of the most popular girl in school.
I looked at the mirror, checking if I forget anything. Hair, check. This time I did my hair with effort. Unlike last time with Ryker, I wasn’t in the mood to do something for our ’date’. But he still found me beautiful on contrary to that.
My hair was braided to the side like a mermaid. There were loose strands that was purposely placed. My make up was done lightly. It looked natural like I wore nothing. I tried to be simple for a change. I wore a peach lacey cocktail dress which reaches just below mid thigh.
Jenna said that I looked like a perfect sweet girl in it. Completely the opposite. In addition, she said I could pull off any dress or may it be rugs, I’d still look gorgeous. I paid no heed with her blabbering. It still doesn’t change the fact that I’m still Stefano’s driver for tonight regardless of being a guest or a gorgeous woman. She then gave me a scowl look which I laughed it off.
"How do I look?" I twirled around in the middle of the hallway when Henry and Nancy took notice of it.
"Oh my god! You look beautiful, darling." She gushed while covering her mouth from so much awe. Henry smiled at me proudly.
"You’re like my sweet teenage daughter going to her prom." Henry teased. I frowned.
"No way. Don’t remind me of that."
"Or my beautiful daughter finally having her date." Nancy added. We laughed.
"Are you sure this isn’t your engagement party? You look so damn gorgeous, sweetie. I’m afraid I’m going to have to play good cop bad cop tonight." Henry said acting protective. We laughed.
"Nice one, Henry. I’d like to see you try that one day. If there’s any guy who’d pass on me first and foremost." I smirked mischievously.
He then crossed his arms with a serious face. "You mean with that Ryker guy I saw one night."
My eyes widened. "Well, that..."
"Shush, Henry. Let the girl go. She’s even old enough to have a family." Nancy placed her hands around his husband’s arm.
"Nope. Not for now." I smiled at the cute old couple who’ve become my family. "I gotta go before my grumpy boss scolds me again for taking my time." We hugged each other and said our good nights and goodbyes.
I went to the parking lot and set the car ready. You know the perks of being Stefano’s driver, I get to keep the car. Not really keep it. But I get to bring it wherever I go since I’m his beck and call always. I have to be there as soon as he said so. And hell this guy’s car is expensive. Billionaire expensive. And he has lots of it like a collection of hot wheels.
I rang his apartment’s doorbell. Few minutes later, he opened the door.
I showed him my toothy grin. "Hey, you ready?"
He didn’t answer. Instead, he looked at me like I’m some rare jewel. Okay not really but he was just staring at me. I don’t know what’s going with his mind right now. His eyes moved down and travelled up. He stared at me again. I frowned. This man really doesn’t know how to be discreet with those indescribable stares of his.
I cleared my throat to grab his attention.
"Umm..." I suddenly felt uncomfortable. My eyes travelled anywhere but his.
He then cleared his throat. I looked at him again. "I’m ready. Let’s go." He fixes his tie one last time. His discomfort was a bit evident. It made me smile... behind him of course. That jerk is going to get mad at me again for smiling out of nowhere.
When we reached to the parking lot, he went to the other car and not the car I brought which I usually drive. I raised my brow when he went to the driver’s side of his audi. I stood here agape. He was about to open the car’s door when he noticed me unmoving.
"Get in the car, White." He ordered while opening the door.
"I’m supposed to drive if you forget." I said sarcastically.
"If you don’t want to get inside, you can always walk, Miss White." He then get inside the car.
"Argh!" I groaned annoyed. "What am I doing here anyway?" I muttered frustratingly as I went towards the passenger’s side. I then get inside of his sexy damn car.
"Nice of you to join me, Miss White." His beautiful audi roared to life.
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever, Ranallo." From my peripheral, I knew this jerk just smirked. And it doesn’t make me happy at all.
