Chapter 44
As soon as we reached, I immediately flopped my self to my ever comfortable bed. God, I miss my bed so much. Keelan followed with my bag and placed it on the floor. He chuckled when he saw me making angel wings on my bed. He took a sit beside me.
"You and your bed, sis. It still doesn’t change." He said amused.
I stopped at my silly antic and frowned. "Hey, I changed." I sat up and faced him. "I am definitely changed. I wake up early morning to jog." He just laughed.
"Really now." He teasingly replied.
"Yes. Okay I still love my bed but I’m not lying in bed all day anymore." He smiled cheekily. I stared at him with inquisitive look.
"What is it, Ave?" His smile broke as he asked.
"Why do you not like him?"
His brows raised bemused. He then realized what I meant. "You mean your rich *** boyfriend?" I rolled my eyes. His face then became serious.
"Of course I don’t like him..." He frowned. "He was the reason why a lot of shit happened to you. Even if you kind of told me nice things about him, I still don’t. I noticed you trying to make me not hate him, Ave but the guy told us everything even before you told me. You defend him even though you’re mad at him. Do you like him that much, Avery? " His face showed no emotion while asking.
I was quite taken aback. It took my awhile to answer him.
"Maybe... maybe not. " I smirked playfully.
He snorted as he rolled his eyes. "You so like him. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that, sis."
As soon as I open my mouth to talk back I heard a loud knock from the door outside. Keelan and I stood from the bed to see our intruder. My mom answered the door. I grinned when I saw Nancy and Henry holding out containers with food inside. I ran towards them and greeted them.
"Nance!" I hugged her careful not to bump with the food. My mom retrieved the other food Henry held.
"Hello, dear. We figured you guys haven’t have lunch so we prepare something for you." Nancy said with a warm smile. I hugged Henry as well.
"That’s so sweet of you guys." My mom said with a smile.
"Welcome home, girly." Henry rubbed my head like I was a little girl. I laughed at his actions.
Our afternoon ended with a small gathering. It was like we’re celebrating my recovery. We ate. We talked. We laughed. We played games a little. There were beers. Of course, Keelan was the only one who couldn’t drink which he found frustrating. We had so much fun. I figured this was the best time I have in my life. After all the shit I’ve been through which I literally caused myself, I appreciated this kind of moment. After this, I would be leaving these two adorable couple who are like my grandparents. Just the thought of it makes me sad.
"What’s wrong? What’s with the long face?" Keelan asked when he just got out of the bathroom to change. He’s now wearing sweatpants and a white t-shirt. He sat down beside me on the bed.
"I just thought I’ll miss this place." He then got in under the covers of my bed. He scooted closer to me and laid his head on my stomach as I was sitting against the headboard.
"I know you will. Nancy and Henry are both kind and welcoming. It’s no wonder you survived this hell hole you’re in." I chuckled at his sarcasm.
"Well, of course. I am pretty lucky. " I smiled feeling so happy to have met them. I stroke his hair nonchalantly. "How was your bootcamp every summer? You didn’t go this year, right?"
"Yeah, it’s relieving to have skipped this year. It’s pretty tiring. My muscles ached every day." I laughed seeing his face contorted displeasingly.
"It’s not that bad. You got yourself some muscles." I pinched his biceps. "Ow!" He squatted my hand away. I laughed. I then pinched his pink cheek. "I miss you so much, little bro."
He scowled. " You’re just saying that because you never had anyone to pinch."
I laughed. "I know, right?"
---
"You’re late." Sierra glared at me across the both as I slid in.
"Hey." I greeted late. She raised her brow. "I had a good time with my brother, okay. I didn’t notice the time." She rolled her eyes cutely with a smirk on her painted lips.
"Your relationship with your brother just simply amazes me." I chuckled.
"Yeah?"
"Well, I am the only heiress of my father’s billion dollars." She waved her hand like a princess would do. "But I think relationship with your siblings and family is worth more than that." She showed a small smile with a hint of sadness.
"Here." She then slid a pink box on the table.
"What’s this?" Eyeing the box with curiosity.
"Open it. It’s a gift. Sendaway gift. I’ll miss you, Ave." She said sadly.
I chuckled. "You look like you’re about to cry. You know I’m just gonna open this at home. I’m pretty sure it’s another dress." I withdrew my hand from trying to open the box.
She grinned childishly. "You know me so well, White."
Jenna suddenly came with our orders with a huge grin plastered on her face. "Hey, Ave. It’s good to see you again here. I’m glad you’ve recovered now."
I smiled back. "Thanks." She then settled our orders on our table. Sierra mumbled thanks to Jenna.
"Boss said it’s in the house. She missed the pretty girl who’s always sitting in this spot." She pointed the table where I sat all the time. "We’ll really miss you now that you’re going to be completely... away for good." She said sadly as she hugged the empty tray on her chest.
"C’mon, Jen. Not you too. Hey, I promise to visit here as long as I have the time."
"Well, you better." Sierra said threateningly. I laughed.
"I promise. You know I have to be away. I have to be with them. It’s been a long time." The two nodded understandingly. "I’m sure I’ll be back here in no time. I mean I chose New York for a reason."
"Yes. NYU, right?" Jenna asked feeling excited for me.
"Yeah..." I said draggingly realising something very important.
"You okay?" Jenna noticed my sudden change of face. I smiled and erased whatever I was feeling. "Yeah, I’m fine."
"Well, I have to get back to work. See you later then?" Sierra and I nodded excitedly for our night out later. When Jenna finally left, I was suddenly met with Sierra’s glare.
My brow lifted in curiosity. "What?"
She then leaned on the table. "What happened between you and Stefano?" I suddenly stiffened but shrugged it off right away not to be so obvious with my reaction.
"Don’t even think about evading this. Ashton had to ask for my help last night. Stefano was dead drunk."
