Chapter 49: He Loves You So Much
She knew better than anyone how badly her son was injured, who wouldn’t be able to get out of bed in ten months, let alone ten days.
However, having clearly misunderstood Qiao Mulan, Yu Jinli thought she wasn’t happy about how slow the curing process was, not realizing that neither he nor Jiang Mosheng had told their two seniors about what was going on so they had no idea that Jiang Mosheng’s health had been improving.
He hadn’t helped his golden coattail with his recovery after he had taught him the method of cultivation for he had accumulated little spirit power himself which he had been keeping to himself. Now seeing the shock in dad and mom’s eyes, he suddenly felt a bit guilty.
Dad and mom had been very kind to him while he, because of a selfish want of quick recovery of his own cultivation, had neglected his golden coattail’s injury and hadn’t helped treat him which slowed down the golden coattail’s recovery.
He hadn’t been a good koi fish.
“Sorry, I’ll try my best to help Ah Sheng with his treatment. In seven days, no, in five days, Ah Sheng will be able to get out of bed,” Yu Jinli said in a small voice as he quietly stole looks at Qiao Mulan and Jiang Zhentao.
Today, he had accumulated loads of Power of Faith. If he could have the same amount of it every day from now on, it would take him less time to cure his golden coattail.
Five days. Five days was enough.
However, what he said was a bombshell to Qiao Mulan. She felt as if she was in a dream that her brain had stopped functioning.
Similarly shocked, Jiang Zhentao could still think and tried to calm himself down. He said gently to Yu Jinli: “Li-er, tell me, you... have you been giving Ah Sheng treatment for the past few days when you were with him?”
“Yes, his body was severely damaged by toxin. But since I didn’t have my full cultivation now, I can only help heal his injury slowly so it will take longer,” Yu Jinli said a bit uneasily, twiddling his fingers in anxiety.
Then, it seemed he had thought of something else, he looked up in haste as if he wanted some credit and said: “But I taught Ah Sheng cultivation methods. It takes less time for him to cure himself.”
Hearing that, though Jiang Zhentao didn’t understand all of Yu Jinli’s words, his heart softened to know that Yu Jinli cared for and treated his son in secret.
Stroking Yu Jinli on the head, Jiang Zhentao’s laughter sounded kinder as he said: “Li-er, thank you for helping Ah Sheng. We are very happy with what you have been doing. We were so excited to hear it that we’ve interrupted your dinner. Come, have some more.”
Qiao Mulan returned to her senses as well. Having heard Yu Jinli and Jiang Zhentao clearly, she wished to go upstairs and check on her son at once to figure this all out. However, though she had lost her appetite, since Yu Jinli hadn’t finished dinner yet, she remained at the table.
After dinner, she couldn’t wait any longer and went upstairs at once. Seeing that Jiang Mosheng was sitting in bed, reading, looking healthier, she was more than excited.
Why didn’t she notice the change in her son earlier?
Clearly, before Little Chestnut joined the family, her son had been pale and weak. Now he had got rid of that paleness and had a pink on his cheeks. Besides, he didn’t seem weak anymore and just looked like a boy who was ill and simply needed some rest.
“Ah Sheng, I heard from Little Chestnut that your condition...” Chocked with sobs, Qiao Mulan didn’t dare to continue, for she was afraid that all of this was just her imagination, a mere dream.
She had had such dreams thousands of times but each time she would wake up and find it an empty joy. She really couldn’t live through another illusion like that.
Though she didn’t finish her sentence, Jiang Mosheng knew what was on her mind. Putting down the book in his hands, he told his mom, whose eyes were red: “I’m getting better. Little Chestnut’s treatment has been working.”
At first, he didn’t want to tell his parents about what was happening to him immediately. Though that would mean his parents would have to worry for a big longer, he could keep Yu Jinli’s secret. Meanwhile, he would be able to find a suitable timing to tell his parents about it.
His condition was improving, which his parents would find out sooner or later so he needed to find a good reason for what happened. However, it didn’t occur to him that the little one would make a slip of the tongue first.
The possibility that Yu Jinli told Qiao Mulan to take credit for what he did never occurred to Jiang Mosheng. To him, it would be good if the little one was clever enough to even think of that. He knew Yu Jinli must have made a slip of the tongue but didn’t realize it.
Thinking of how open the little one was with his family, his felt a warmness inside. He knew the little one never intended to hide it from anyone when he gave him treatment and taught him cultivation methods.
Though Jiang Mosheng had just known Yu Jinli for a short time, he knew him well.
“Re, really?” Knowing that her son wasn’t a liar, that anything from his mouth must be true, Qiao Mulan was over the moon.
Her son was getting better. Perhaps she wouldn’t lose him again. Perfect. Had god finally heard her prayers so he sent her Little Chestnut?
“Mom, there’s one thing I want to keep secret. I hope before I get rid of the toxin in my body, nobody outside the family knows about my recovery. Besides, don’t mention Little Chestnut at all,” said Jiang Mosheng seriously to Qiao Mulan.
What he said wasn’t an attempt to take credit from Yu Jinli. Instead, it was his way to protect him. Now that he hadn’t fully recovered yet, he wasn’t strong enough to keep Little Chestnut safe. If news went around, people with malice would no doubt harm Little Chestnut while he wouldn’t allow anything like that to happen, not in the least because of him.
He knew how special Little Chestnut’s ability was better than anyone else so he wouldn’t take any risks.
Even without Jiang Mosheng’s warning, Qiao Mulan wasn’t going to spread the news. She wasn’t interested in how Yu Jinli managed to take care of an injury that had troubled the most famous doctors in the Federation. All she cared about was that she wasn’t going to lose her son anymore.
“I see, Ah Sheng. Your dad and I have made a decision but haven’t told you about it.” Hesitantly, Qiao Mulan wanted to tell her son about something that concerned the happiness of the rest of his life.
Because her son was lying sick in bed without much time left, she and her husband found him a fiancé while keeping him in the dark, hoping to breed a grandson with technology.
Yet, it would be better to have a grandson while her son and this fiancé of his loved each other so she had let Jiang Mosheng and Yu Jinli get along for a while.
Now that her son was getting better, she wasn’t in a hurry to have a grandson anymore. Besides, she needed to tell him the truth about Yu Jinli sooner or later.
While she was telling him about it, she was a bit uneasy, worried that her son would blame her husband and her for acting on their own initiative.
If this fiancé wasn’t Yu Jinli and her son didn’t approve the engagement, she and her husband wouldn’t force it on their son and would make it up for this fiancé kid.
However, since it was Yu Jinli, Qiao Mulan wouldn’t accept a no from Jiang Mosheng.
Yet it was always her and her husband’s decision. She knew how much Yu Jinli loved her son, so much so that he was willing to marry him even knowing that he would die soon and give him a baby. Now he had saved her son without hesitating to give away his secret. That moved her. She couldn’t bring herself to separate him from her son.
“Ah Sheng, I know your dad and I have never talked with you about this. It’s our fault, but little chestnut is innocent. He loves you so much that he has come here as a substitute. Even though he knows you were dying, he is willing to give you a baby. Now he has saved your life. We are grateful people. I know at the moment you don’t know him well yet but you will in the future. Little chestnut is a good kid with a good personality and ability. He is a good match for you. You have time to develop affection for him,” Qiao Mulan tried hard to persuade Jiang Mosheng, listing all of Yu Jinli’s merits. The more she said, the fonder she was of her son-in-law.
Jiang Family had indeed got themselves a treasure.
Jiang Mosheng, however, was totally stunned by this news, especially “he loves you so much” part so that he didn’t hear a word of what his mom said later.
No wonder there was a new member in the family. No wonder mom let the little one bring him his meal every day. No wonder the little one would channel spirit power into his body to treat his injury. It turned out, the little one had feelings for him?
Having made that clear, Jiang Mosheng, who was always in peace felt his heart pounding, so fast that he thought it was going to break away from his body.
“Ah Sheng?” Seeing that Jiang Mosheng kept a poker face in silence, Qiao Mulan thought he couldn’t take it. Worried, she was afraid that he would say something inappropriate to little chestnut afterwards which would break his heart.
Well, it might be a good idea to keep a distance between the two for now in case Ah Sheng would make some rude remarks. When he got around this, she would let them get along again. Qiao Mulan decided.
It probably didn’t occur to Jiang Mosheng that his usual poker face had caused a misunderstanding which led to a period of sad life where he wouldn’t be able to see little chestnut.
