Chapter 55: Jealous
He just didn’t believe it. One or two cases simply meant coincidences. It couldn’t have happened to everyone. That koi fish would bring good luck was just a lie. How come those fools fell for it? He, the messenger of justice, would expose this liar of a steamer. With his eyes fixed on the screen, Sun Gu was ready to give this liar a slap on the face as soon as a comment claimed that his prayer didn’t come true. However, as the number of comments grew, his face turned gloomier. In fact, Sun Gu was also a registered steamer on Star Origin and did his first live stream yesterday like Yu Jinli. However, he pulled in a pitiable number of viewers - no more than ten from beginning to end. At first, he didn’t think it was a problem. After all, he was a rookie steamer on a new live stream website. It was normal that there were few viewers. He clicked in several other live stream and found similar number of viewers which made him feel better. As long as he could have recommendation later, he would attract fans. At first, there wasn’t supposed to be any recommendations of steamers at the main page of the website. What went wrong was he saw a steamer high up on the main page when he checked it out of habit after he finished his live streaming which broke his inner peace. He wanted to see which streamer was so good that he was recommended on the first day. Was it some top streamer from another website? After he entered that live streaming room, he found it wasn’t a top steamer at all. That steamer didn’t even know common practice in live stream. Nor did he talk with his viewers. However, a steamer like that was recommended made him angry. If everyone started at the same point, it wouldn’t matter that he had a worse result. However, now there was only one good student among a group of bad ones. Everyone knew what that would bring about. Of course, Yu Jinli had no idea what was on Sun Gu’s mind but he noticed Sun Gu’s and other viewers’ comments. He was happy that everyone’s prayer came true but he wasn’t happy about this downer who came out of nowhere, especially since he called his kind a lie. Koi fish was born with good fortune. Every koi fish more or less had some good fortune with him or her, volume of which being the only difference. However, it was much more than what human had in comparison. Someone who was close to a koi fish, who loved and cared about a koi fish sincerely might be gifted with good fortune. A person like that would have a smoother life. As for the claim that if everyone kept a koi fish during the ancient earth time and it wouldn’t have come to an end was false. First of all, not everyone was kind or kind to koi fish. If one kept a koi fish out of evil intent, then not only wouldn’t he have good fortune, but he might also bring bad fortune to himself which would get him to the end of his life quicker. Yu Jinli really wanted to tell that man about it but he couldn’t. As a koi fish spirit beast, he knew it but he didn’t know how to explain to everyone how he learned about it so all he could do was to guide his viewers to not hate koi fish. Luckily, only a minority of them were biased. The majority loved koi fish. [I want to say that my prayer came true too. At first, I thought it was just a coincidence. But now that so many people have talked about it, the more I think about it, the less I feel it was a coincidence.] [High five. Mine came true as well. I couldn’t believe it. Having worked on my certificate for two years and failed three times, I finally passed the test this morning and got my dream certificate.] [Huh? Now come to think about it, mine also came true. Yesterday, since everyone was praying, I thought it was fun and followed suit. Now looking back, mine did come true.] The comment section was filled with joy and updated at a fast pace. The subject turned from the dish that Yu Jinli was working on to whether worshiping a koi fish did bring good fortune. One or two successes might simply be coincidences. However, yesterday, many viewers had prayed to koi fish and every one of them had realized their prayers. The viewers were stunned and didn’t know what to say, until one comment took this to the peak. [Aw! I can’t control myself anymore! Now that everyone has told their story, I want to tell mine too. Thank you very much, streamer koi. I’ve passed my interview and have got an offer from my dream company. Thanks to streamer koi who brought me good fortune today.] [What happened? Which company were you interviewed?] [Capital Empire, administrative assistant. I couldn’t wait to go back home after the interview. So excited.] As soon as that comment came out, more followed, because of Capital Empire. It was the largest and most influential corporation in capital star, with a benefit package so good that people would enter it at all cost. There were people who’d rather spend a few years trying to get in. Often a single vacancy in the corporation would draw in thousands of applicants. The competition was fierce. Someone among them had actually passed the interview of Capital Empire. It was simply not human. At this point, everyone was ready to bask themselves in that person’s good luck while the man who said he would eat keyboards, unwilling to be left alone stepped out once again to validate his existence. [I Just Don’t Believe in Koi Fish: “Huh, worried that you weren’t be able to pass the interview yesterday and passed it today. Do you take Capital Empire as a welfare center? If one can get an offer from Capital Empire just because he has prayed to a koi fish, the company would have had an overload of personnel. Think before you lie, okay?”] A real character she was, that viewer didn’t want to get involved in a quarrel so she simply uploaded her staff ID. In Capital Empire, every staff had an ID. It was very special with a fake-proof mark, which wasn’t easy to forge. Though she had pixelated her name and photo, it was clear what it was with today as its issue date. [I Just Don’t Believe in Koi Fish: “Good job with a photoshopped picture. I almost fell for that.”] [“Jumbled codes? What’s happening? Could it be an instant retribution?”] [“Damn, talking about instant retribution, I think he might have got one because he slanders streamer koi. Hah hah, serves him right!”] [“Everyone has been telling you that streamer koi is magical and you still dared to find fault with him. Well, well, well, now bad luck has fallen on you.”] The viewers were in a heated conversation but Sun Gu was in a bad situation. At first, he was typing furiously in order to fight back. To his horror, the smart watch he bought for doing live stream not long ago had leaked electricity on him! There wasn’t supposed to be such an error, not one in a million. In this interstellar age with advanced technology, many technical errors were eliminated and safety was guaranteed. However, such was how unlucky Sun Gu was, having bought the only one smart watch with a technical error. Because of the leaked electricity, he didn’t even have the strength to lift his arms. For a moment, he thought he was going to die. Sheer terror seized him. Struggling, he wanted to send for an ambulance. Though the communicator seemed close, it felt as if it was a world away. Several seconds passed but it felt like years to him. Meanwhile, the smart watch still worked as if it hadn’t had an electricity leak at all. The live streaming room was still on the screen with comments scrolling up in front of him. He wanted to do something but couldn’t move at all instead of sitting and watching passively. [“Where’s that anti? Why does he stop commenting? Didn’t he say he was going to live stream himself eat keyboards? I’ve switched to hologram mode for that. Where does he go?”] [“I think he might have got retribution because he has slandered streamer koi. Now he might not dare to show up again. Probably not going to see him eat keyboards today.”] [“Well, slandering my streamer koi, he deserves it. Come to think of it, streamer koi is brilliant. Prayers bring good fortune while slanders mean bad luck. My streamer koi is fantastic!”] [“Streamer koi, I’m going to tell my feelings for my sweetheart tomorrow, please bless me.”] Viewers followed suit with cheers and more comments. Perhaps not many of them did believe what was said but simply found it fun and followed suit. However, it still drew a lot of attention and discussion. More viewers started to worship koi fish. When Liu Xingyuan joined Yu Jinli’s live streaming room, he saw that strange scene. Last night, after watching Yu Jinli’s live streaming, Zhang Xiaojie was extremely excited. Not only did he recommend it on the main page of the website, but he also recommended it to his boss as a potential streamer. He was confident that with promotion and recommendation, this steamer “I Am a Koi Fish” would become a hit, perhaps a star steamer of Star Origin. He was the one that discovered this streamer. Therefore, the next day, as soon as he was at work, Zhang Xiaojie recommended “I Am a Koi Fish” to his group leader and watched a video he recorded of last night’s live stream with him. The two saw the same potential in “I Am a Koi Fish” and prepared to recommend him to their boss.
