Episode 8

   Episode- 8     My mother said in annoyance, “Alisa,,, why are you so late?.... you were supposed to be here 1 hour ago.” We haven’t seen each other for like 5 months but first thing she asked was this…. what I was even hoping she would care for me???... don’t joke with yourself Alisa.   My grandmother said, “She is spoiled,,, that’s why she acts like that.” I just looked down as I was still standing like a show piece which was being judged for sale…. And failing the criteria.     My father added, “Why can’t you just be like Ruth?..... why can’t you just stop making me upset?”    My nails were digging her palm as I was fighting my emotions. I looked at all of them and noticed Ruth smiling at me like she won,,, and he boyfriend just gave me a disgusted look.     I loved him once… for years I tried to forget him after their first meet but I failed to forget him,,,, first love is always the hardest.    I said, “I was busy…. Why did you called me?”     My mother changed her attention to Ruth and she didn’t even ask me to sit. My mother said, “Ruth,,, has something to tell us…. She was waiting so that all family could hear it.”    Ruth’s face was now bright,,, she smiled and she took Edwin’s hand in hers and said while getting shy, “Father we want to get married…. We need your blessings.” Edwin smiled and put his hand around Ruth.     I don’t know why my heart felt pain and discomfort… no… I am over him,,, I don’t care if he marries someone.     Everyone congratulated them and everyone seems to be happy. I said with a smile, “Congratulations Ruth… I hope you a happy life and wedding….. and if there is nothing more to say or hear then I will return to my work.”     I turned and tried to walkout but I heard my grandpa saying in cold and indifferent voice, “Alisa,,, come meet me in my study,,,,, I have something to talk.”     I was stoned at the place and turned my frozen face to them. Everyone was shocked because when grandpa wants to talk then it means that he is unhappy with that person. I nodded while grandpa walks to his study.      I opened the door of Study as Grandpa was already looking through his huge book shelf. I stood there as I was already scared and wondering what did I did to offend him.    He said, “Sit down.” I sat on the chair and he sat in front of me.    He pulled his drawer and picked something from it and placed it in front of me and said, “Take it.”    I looked at the thing at it was chocolate… I looked with surprise and took it in my hand and didn’t dare to do anything.    He asked again, “How is your work?’    I said, “It’s going good.”    He asked, “How are you doing?” I was surprised by his question but I managed to answer, “I am good.”    He smiled and said, “Lie.”
