Chapter 66: Jiang Family Saved
If Jiang Mosheng couldn’t make it this time, Jiang Zhentao’s position would definitely be handed over to someone. At first, he was prepared for that and had a candidate in mind, for whom he had paved the road.
Yet apparently, his opponents not only wanted him to give up his position, but also wanted the position to be handed over to one of them. Well, these men’s plan was going to fall through.
“Old Jiang, I know you’re not in high spirits, but that shouldn’t hold up our schedule. What you are experiencing must be tough. We must feel the same if it falls on any of us. But we, as soldiers, must be able to take the hit and be ready to sacrifice for the Federation and the people.” said Yu Hongrui, “highly principled”.
After hearing Yu Hongrui’s words, the last one of the three marshals, Tang Qixu’s sarcastic smirk couldn’t have been more pronounced.
Compared to the friendship Jiang Family and Yu Family shared on the surface, which was in fact broken, Tang Family and Yu Family had been on rough terms from the beginning. Tang Qixu and Yu Hongrui often held conflicting opinions. Neither one was convinced of the other. But because both held similar power, neither could take any advantage, nor suffered much loss.
Tang Qixu and Jiang Zhentao were close friends. However, on the surface, the two seldom spoke in order to keep the balance at the military headquarter.
From the start, Tang Qixu wasn’t optimistic about Jiang Mosheng and Yu Jinsheng’s engagement. Not only because he didn’t want Jiang Family to form a matrimonial alliance with a despicable family like Yu Family, but he was also worried that Yu Family would find fault with him in the name of Jiang Family.
Tang Qixu and Jiang Zhentao were good friends back at school. After joining the military, the two often fought side by side and had become brothers who went through fire and hot water together.
Later, after the two were elected as marshals, in order to avoid arousing suspicion, they seldom got together on the surface but were close in private.
This time Jiang Family was in trouble, Tang Qixu would not stand by with folded arms.
If Jiang Zhendao was on his own, he might not be 100% sure to get his successor elected as marshal. But with the support of Tang Qixu, Jiang Zhendao’s plan would more likely work out.
Now that Jiang Meosheng was in recovery, Jiang Family would not fall, and Jiang Zhendao’s position as marshal would not be easily coveted by others.
“Well, recently, MB78 has been hit by star pirates which seriously disturbs the peace of the Federation. How about you take care of this mission, Marshal Yu?” said Tang Qixu quietly with a faint smile.
Star pirates around MB78 were known all over the Federation for their viciousness and cruelty. All those caught by them were tortured to death. They were most hated and had caused military headquarter most headaches.
Military headquarter had sent troops to handle them, but unfortunately, they were too cunning and unpredictable so military headquarter had never succeeded in eliminating them, which was one of its biggest failures.
Hearing Tang Qixu’s words, Yu Hongrui’s teeth clenched because of hatred. Leaving to eliminate star pirates at this point, especially a bunch of notorious star pirates, was not only a huge loss, but also a difficult task. When he was back, the election would be long over and his attempt so far would be futile.
He knew Tang Qixu’s vicious intentions. Sending him away at this point? No way!
“Those star pirates are notorious. We are absolutely going to eliminate them. However, with a coming election, I’m worried that somebody will create difficulties. How about taking care of them. After all, the security of our Federation depends on this election. What do you say, Marshal Jiang?” said Yu Hongrui smilingly.
Jiang Zhentao threw a calm glance at Yu Hongrui, not in the least mood to reply but he had to play his role so he simply nodded for he knew Yu Hongrui wouldn’t accept the task no matter what. It was good enough to make Yu Hongrui feel uncomfortable.
The meeting eventually ended in a belligerent atmosphere, which was how it usually ended every week. Everyone got used to it and went back to their posts.
Together, Tang Qixu and Jiang Zhentao headed back to their offices. Though during the meeting Tang Qixu was firm when he threw shade at Yu Hongrui, he was actually worried about Jiang Family.
“Zhentao, Ah Sheng... Doctors at the First Military Hospital have sped up on an antidote. I believe Ah Sheng will make it through this.” Tang Qixu didn’t know how to console his friend.
Jiang Family just had one son. Even if there were other children in the family, Jiang Mosheng’s death would be a great blow. He could understand his friend’s feelings.
That Yu Hongrui took this opportunity to throw stones at Jiang Zhentao made him even angrier. He wished that he could tear that hypocrite’s face apart right now.
“Ah Sheng is in a good state right now. Everything will be fine,” said Jiang Zhentao smilingly. At the moment, he couldn’t tell anyone about how Jiang Mosheng actually was. After all, it concerned both his son and son-in-law’s safety.
After finishing his regular tasks at the military headquarter, Jiang Zhentao headed back home at once.
Ever since Jiang Mosheng’s incident, Jiang Zhentao had kept to this schedule - going back home as soon as he finished work. Everyone at the headquarter was used to it as well.
Right now, in the training room of the First Legion, several military men were in rigorous exercises with sweaty foreheads. After a simple wipe, they kept on with the next exercise. Their bodies were tense because of extensive training with blue veins throbbing in their foreheads. Even though the training was beyond what they could take, they kept pushing themselves for breakthrough. They only stopped when they couldn’t move anymore, lying on the floor for a rest.
“Hey, how is chief right now? What do you say?” Lying on the floor and gasping for breath, White Tiger asked, his eyes filled with anger and guilt.
That question hung over the room heavily.
If they hadn’t entered the Zerg Overmind’s territory by mistake, their chief wouldn’t have to save them and got poisoned.
Each time they recalled what happened, they were overwhelmed by hatred and wished they could tear Zerg Overmind to pieces.
Present were all members of Jiang Mosheng’s team. It was them who followed him to the battlefield during the war against the Zerg.
Since Jiang Mosheng was injured and Jiang Family shut its door to visitors, Divine Beast, top team of the Federation had been throwing itself into rigorous training. A day was not complete until these men exhausted themselves. That training intensity was simply not humane in the view of other soldiers.
Yet each time, its members finished perfectly, pushing their boundaries repeatedly.
However, that wasn’t enough for them. If back then they had tried harder, had been more powerful, they wouldn’t have let Jiang Mosheng in danger, he wouldn’t have been injured on the verge of death.
“I want to go and visit chief.” Phoenix, a female member who had been quiet suddenly said.
Frustration hung over the room. Everyone had a complex feeling, especially after hearing what Phoenix said. They would love to visit their chief, yet they were afraid to see him in a weak state.
In their opinion, Jiang Mosheng was always the most powerful, all-mighty leader. They had never seen him in a bad shape. Nor could they imagine it.
Day in and day out, they wanted to become more powerful through rigorous training, which was also a way to keep their minds off certain affairs.
Each time they thought about their chief lying injured in bed, their heart ached.
The one thing that this invincible team feared most was their chief.
“I’m going to save chief no matter what. If he dies, I’m going to follow him.” With clenched fist and throbbing blue veins, White Tiger couldn’t accept that chief was dying.
After holding back their emotions for such a long time, members of Divine Beast couldn’t do it any longer. If they couldn’t see their chief, who was the only one that could keep them in check, they might destroy the whole training base.
When Jiang Zhentao arrived home, he saw everyone at the dinner table. Since he would return late, he told everyone not to wait for him ahead.
“Zhentao, you are home. We just finished dinner. Come here.” Qiao Mulan waved at her husband happily.
With her son getting better, though his super core was broken which made him a normal person, she was grateful to the gods and Yu Jinli.
She wouldn’t lose her son anymore. That her son was safe and sound was more important than anything else.
“Just a moment. Let me wash my hands first.” Looking at his happy family, the depression Jiang Zhentao had at the military headquarter totally disappeared.
“Uncle Jiang, Ah Sheng is doing well. His body has recovered to Grade B. I believe he’ll get better soon,” reported Shen Qian as he ate.
Since last week, Jiang Mosheng could get out of bed. During this week, he had been doing rehabilitation training and his health had improved.
At first, he was poisoned as well as badly injured so the condition of his physique dropped to Grade E, one level above the lowest one.
Now although he hadn’t got rid of the toxin completely, his physique had improved to Grade B, which was already a miracle.
For a normal person, Grade B meant one could drive a machine armor. Therefore, even if Jiang Mosheng couldn’t restore his super core, he could remain at the military headquarter and drive a machine armor to protect the Federation.
Besides, Jiang Mosheng used to be a rare Grade S. As long as he kept training, he might be able to return to that level. A Grade S normal person was held with revere for there weren’t many people in the Federation who had super core. The majority of the military headquarter were normal people.
“Really? That’s good news,” said Jiang Zhentao and Qiao Mulan excitedly with tears in their eyes.
At first, they thought that their son being alive was the best result they could get. It never occurred to them that his physique was also improving to a level that he could drive a machine armor.
Great! Way to go, boy!
Jiang Family was indeed saved.
