Chapter 73: Send Him to School
After members of Divine Beast realized that the aroma might have come from the kitchen, they all craned their necks toward it for a better view, restless. If their chief wasn’t here, they would have gone watching in the kitchen.
That aroma was extremely appetizing. Was it really from natural food?
They had had natural food before, none of which was as aromatic.
Could it be the cook?
The members suddenly recalled that the one that was cooking was their brother-in-law, so... all the aroma was made by him?
Their brother-in-law was amazing!
The members’ eagerness amused Qiao Mulan.
Everyone that smelled her son-in-law’s cooking showed the same eagerness. She was already used to that. Yet she was still proud to have such a good son-in-law.
Little chestnut was a member of Jiang Family. She and her family could enjoy his cooking every day while others weren’t so lucky. They should count themselves fortunate enough to be able to taste little chestnut’s cooking even for once.
About ten minutes later, the first dish was brought out which drew the members’ attention immediately.
Members of Divine Beast considered themselves men of wide experience. However, they were still amazed by such a beautiful dish whose ingredient they couldn’t guess.
It never occurred to them that their brother-in-law was such a terrific cook, whose dish was unique. No wonder he could win their chief’s heart.
After all the dishes were served, the aroma grew stronger. Members couldn’t control themselves anymore. Reason, something they were very proud of, suddenly abandoned them. When lunch started, trying to outdo one another, they wolfed down the food like they had never had a meal.
Well, from a certain aspect, they had indeed never had such a meal.
Perfectly content with this lunch, members of Divine Beast totally forgot any effort to protect their personal image. Towards the end of lunch, it became a race of chopsticks. Those who were slow were left to envy others who had picked up some food. Not even the cold air around Jiang Mosheng got any of the members’ attention.
At last, each member ended with a round belly. As they stroked their stomachs to help digestion, they were considering the possibility of being a daily freeloader. However, to their chief, they were already on the blacklist.
“Brother-in-law, you are amazing. What’s that last dish again? It’s so good!” Sitting next to Yu Jinli, White Tiger asked, not shy at all.
“Squirrel-shaped Mandarin fish. If you guys like it, I’ll cook it next time you are here,” answered Yu Jinli smilingly.
“Really?” Hearing that, members of Divine Beast was surprised.
“Well...” Next to them, Jiang Mosheng coughed warningly to tell them to stop before going too far. Otherwise, it would be more than several times more training after they were back.
As expected, the next second, members restrained themselves. After all, they had all had a taste of their chief’s methods. Nobody wanted a lesson from him. Yet it was unfair for chief to keep such delicious food to himself.
“It’s getting late,” said Jiang Mosheng. His meaning to order the guests to leave was obvious. Although members of Divine Beast didn’t want to leave yet, they had to.
“Sheng-er, is that the right way to treat you subordinates?” said Qiao Mulan with a thin smile.
“They are a bunch of gourmands. If they visit often, little chestnut will be exhausted cooking,” said Jiang Mosheng as a matter of fact.
In order not to tire his partner, he had to let his brothers put up with days without delicious food.
Nothing wrong with that!
Qiao Mulan found her son’s answer reasonable. She loved her son-in-law dearly. It would be exhausting if he needed to cook a table full of dishes each time.
So, it made sense to have guests over less.
“Mom, I want to talk with you about something.” Sitting beside Qiao Mulan, Jiang Mosheng said in earnest.
“What?” Qiao Mulan seldom saw her son like this so she became serious at once.
“I want little chestnut to go to school,” said Jiang Mosheng.
Since he was sure about his feelings for little chestnut, he investigated little chestnut’s past, which made him feel more sorry for him and gave him a worse impression of Yu Family. He wished that he could travel back in time and take little chestnut with him before he was brought to Yu Family. In that way, little chestnut wouldn’t have suffered and gone through all the hardships. As Yu Family’s bastard son, Yu Family never cared about Yu Jinli. It was even stingy with food and clothes it gave him, let alone sending him to school.
By now, Yu Jinli hadn’t attended school at all.
Now that little chestnut was a member of Jiang Family, Jiang Mosheng wanted to give him the best of everything. Even if little chestnut wasn’t going to learn any skills or knowledge, given Jiang Family’s status, he was set for life.
Although Yu Jinli seemed innocent and had no desire, Jiang Mosheng knew he wasn’t the kind of dependent person.
He didn’t want to find out little chestnut’s secret. Besides, he knew little chestnut was capable while he apparently didn’t have common sense of this world.
That was why he wanted to send little chestnut to school. In that way, little chestnut could learn about this world. He didn’t expect little chestnut to excel at school. He simply didn’t want little chestnut exposed because of his ignorance of this world and he could protect himself better.
However, Jiang Mosheng wasn’t going to tell anyone about all that, not even his parents.
What Jiang Mosheng said reminded Qiao Mulan of Yu Jinli’s unfortunate past experience. She had overlooked that.
Yu Jinli had just reached the age of an adult. He was supposed to go to school instead of being kept home. It would be good for him to learn stuff and make friends.
“Okay, I’ll talk to your dad about it and see if we can send little chestnut to the First Military Academy,” said Qiao Mulan smilingly.
Kids of Jiang Family always went to the best school.
The First Military Academy was the No.1 university of the Federation with the most elite students. Each year, hundreds of millions of students applied to it.
Surely, besides students that were admitted through examinations, the school ran a recommendation system that powerful families and military officers of high rank could recommend a student each year.
Recommended students were admitted after passing a simple test.
In the past, Jiang Family directly abstained from the recommendation. This year, it would give the recommendation to little chestnut.
At this point, Yu Jinli came along. Qiao Mulan saw him and waved at him smilingly.
Obediently, Yu Jinli walked over and sat next to her as he listened to her attentively.
“Little chestnut, do you want to go to school? How about I send you to school?” asked Qiao Mulan with a smile.
She needed Yu Jinli’s opinion on that.
“School?” With his head tipping, Yu Jinli gave it a thought.
He knew what school was like for many children needed to go to school in his previous world. Before he turned into human, he envied those kids and decided to go to school after he took the form of a human.
Pitiably, after he turned into human, he found it wasn’t easy to attend school. Given his appearance and age, he couldn’t go to elementary or middle school while he needed to pass college entrance exam before he could attend a university. Since he never received any formal education, the result was obvious.
In his previous world, failing to pass college entrance exam was a blow to Yu Jinli.
Now he was over the moon to hear that he could go to school. Yet the thought of the college entrance exam in his previous world brought him down.
He was at an age to go to college. Did that mean he needed to take another college entrance exam?
“Mom, I’m not a good student. I can’t pass the exam,” said Yu Jinli, frustrated.
In his previous world, his sect-brother used to help him prepare the exam. However, he wasn’t a college material. Even with his sect-brother’s help, he didn’t pass the exam.
“Don’t worry. The test is easy. If you want to go to school, I’ll make it happen. Okay?” It was the first time Qiao Mulan found it good to have power.
“Really? I want to, mom. I want to go to school. I promise to study hard,” said Yu Jinli firmly with tight fists.
Could he really go to school? Could he really attend classes and play with classmates like everyone else? Yu Jinli was excited that he could finally realize his dream from his previous world in this one.
“I believe you can do it. I’ll ask Ah Sheng to tell you about school. Ah Sheng also graduated from the First Military Academy,” said Qiao Mulan smilingly.
Jiang Mo Sheng entered the First Military Academy with the highest grade, and graduated with the best score. During his time in school, he had already been to the battlefield and made a lot of military achievements. He was considered the idol of all students of the First Military Academy. Many students worked hard to get admitted to it because they wanted to be Jiang Mosheng’s schoolmates.
Jiang Mosheng’s legend was still in the First Military Academy.
“Yes, mom.” Yu Jinli nodded hard, apparently exhilarated.
He was going to the golden coattail’s school. Yu Jinli wondered what his golden coattail was like when he was at school. Looking forward to school, he was so excited!
Though it wasn’t confirmed, he was already thrilled.
Both Jiang Mosheng and Qiao Mulan were happy to see how excited Yu Jinli was, which lightened up the whole manor.
Ever since Yu Jinli was here, everything changed for the better. Life was smoother with all the bad things disappearing.
It seemed little chestnut was indeed Mr. Lucky of the family.
