Chapter 84: Getting Admitted
Although Yu Jinli had slowed down, given how familiar he was with heart-shaped herb and how smooth the process was, he was able to finish the task in 20 minutes, twice the time than he last did it.
He was quite happy about it, thinking that he had met Ah Sheng’s requirement. What he didn’t know was that even though he had slowed down, it was still shocking to make a Grade F energy card in such a short time.
“... He has done it?” Xu Ling stared at the glowing card in Yu Jinli’s hand in disbelief.
“Impossible!” With wide eyes, Li Yiyi gazed at the screen. She didn’t want to believe it.
Ruan Mingji seemed calm, but his eyes with a trace of excitement betrayed him.
Not many people were able to make energy cards at such a young age at one go in a short time, which showed Yu Jinli’s potential and talent. Now, Ruan Mingji finally understood why Master Kameng was willing to recommend this boy.
However, it was a pity that this young man’s inner focus was at Grade D. If he had an inner focus of Grade A, he would become a rare Grade A Card Forger sooner or later.
The thought of Yu Jinli’s inner focus grade made everyone sigh.
“Haha, what a talent. He’s a Card Forger at such a young age. Good judgment.” Xiao Guotai spoke to Jiang Mosheng jokingly.
He knew the relationship between Yu Jinli and Jiang Family though others didn’t. It was good news for Jiang Family that it had such a talented son-in-law.
“Sure.” Jiang Mosheng sounded a bit proud, which he didn’t even notice and was rare for him.
Xiao Guotai was a bit surprised. But he felt he could finally set his mind at ease.
“Ah Sheng, here you are.” Running towards Jiang Mosheng, Yu Jinli passed the energy card he made to him.
He had said that he would give Jiang Mosheng all the energy cards he made and he had kept his promise.
However, the energy card in front of Jiang Mosheng was taken away by someone else.
Yu Jinli looked at that “thief” unhappily.
“Give it back. It’s mine.” He said angrily to Li Yiyi.
He didn’t like this woman who had an evil intention from the start. With a trace of dark air around her, it meant she had had bad luck recently. He wanted no part of that.
Nor did he want to stay close to someone like her.
“You used the school’s energy card. Of course it belongs to the school, not you,” retorted Li Yiyi as she watched the energy card carefully, trying to find a flaw so that she had reason not to admit Yu Jinli.
“You...” Yu Jinli didn’t know the rules. The empty card was indeed provided by the school. If he had known what would happen, he would have used his own energy card in the test.
He took out an empty Grade F energy card from his schoolbag and gave it to Xiao Guotai as he spoke: “Here is an empty energy card. The one I made just now belongs to me.”
Not in the least mood to talk to that female teacher, Yu Jinli knew Xiao Guotai was the boss of the academy so he dealt with him directly.
Looking at the empty energy card, then at the angry young man, Xiao Guotai found Yu Jinli amusing.
Did this young man intend to replace the energy card he used with an empty one? He was pretty quick.
However, Xiao Guotai didn’t take his empty card. Instead, he said with a tender smile: “You made that card. It’s yours. No need for compensation.”
“Really?” Yu Jinli’s eyes glowed at that. Now that the boss of the school had spoken, the card was his.
“Mr. Principal...” Li Yiyi wanted to speak but stopped under the principal’s sharp gaze.
Though Li Family was influential in the Federation, Xiao Guotai also had a powerful background as the principal of the First Military Academy. He was a man of high prestige and commanded universal respect. Li Yiyi dared to argue with Xu Ling and Yu Jinli, but she didn’t dare to do so when it was the principal. Reluctantly, she gave the card back to Yu Jinli.
Happily, Yu Jinli put it in Jiang Mosheng’s hand. He smiled as two dimples appeared on his cheeks, which was very cute.
“Now that Mr. Yu has passed the exam, put him in a suitable class, Dean Ruan,” said Xiao Guotai. “Yes, sir,” answered Ruan Mingji. He had approved Yu Jinli’s ability. Even without word from the principal, he would arrange a class for him.
“Welcome to Card Forger School,” said Ruan Mingji smilingly.
“Thank you, mister.” Yu Jinli thanked him obediently. He was happy that he could finally attend school.
“Xu Ling, take Mr. Yu to his class.” Ruan Mingji told Xu Ling. “Yes, Mr. Dean,” replied Xu Ling with a smile.
At the First Military Academy, Card Forger School only educated Card Forgers. There were Class A, B, C, D, and F, five classes in total.
The former four classes were made up of students who got admitted through exams with inner focus of Grade A or B while the last class consisted of students who got accepted through family connections with inner focus of Grade C.
Class F, the class that Yu Jinli was going to join was the worst one of Card Forger School.
With students with inner focus of lower grade who got admitted through connections, Class F was the loser class of Card Forger School.
Surely, Yu Jinli didn’t know that. Even if he did, he wouldn’t mind. He was already over the moon to be able to attend school.
Jiang Mosheng, however, knew that. It was a tradition of the academy. Nobody escaped that. In terms of inner focus and admission qualification, Yu Jinli was bound to end up in Class F.
Yet, he had faith in Yu Jinli that he would become an outstanding Card Forger no matter which class he was in.
“Mr. Yu, please follow me,” said Xu Ling smilingly.
When the exam was arranged, Xu Ling knew she would have a new member in her class so she was here as an examiner.
At first, she wasn’t very hopeful about Yu Jinli since most capable and talented young people of powerful families got admitted through formal exams. Only those who wanted to attend the First Military Academy but wasn’t qualified enough would take the recommendation approach.
It was fair to say that Class F was made up of young people of powerful families who muddled along for credits from day to day. They wanted nothing more than a graduation certificate of the First Military Academy.
Therefore, Xu Ling wasn’t surprised to see that Yu Jinli only had an inner focus of Grade D. However, the second test that followed was out of her expectation.
It never occurred to her that a student with inner focus of Grade D was a Card Forger and could make an energy card. In the best class, Class A, the number of students who were Card Forgers could be counted on one’s fingers.
Even though Yu Jinli’s inner focus grade might limit his future, right now, he wasn’t among the last group of students. Xu Ling was happy that she could have Yu Jinli in her class.
Now Class F also had a real Card Forger, the third one in the school, which made it a step ahead of Class C, and D.
“Ah Sheng?” Yu Jinli turned to Jiang Mosheng.
“Mm, I’ll pick you up after school,” said Jiang Mosheng with a smile.
“Mm!” Yu Jinli nodded hard. Then he followed Xu Ling to his new class.
After Yu Jinli left the exam room, so did Jiang Mosheng, the principal and the dean of Card Forger School. Li Yiyi was left behind as if she was forgotten. She remained on the same spot with hatred.
“There are twenty students in our class with inner focus of Grade C. However, by far, none of them can make energy cards. So, though your inner focus grade isn’t high, you are very talented. Don’t belittle yourself. You might be as good as those in other classes in the future.” As Xu Ling told Yu Jinli about Class F, she encouraged him, determined to turn him into a good Card Forger.
“I see,” answered Yu Jinli smilingly.
Of course he would. He had learned Seal Script from his master shifu. No one here knew how to make Seal Script. He was better than all of them. Yu Jinli thought to himself, narcissistic. He was very confident about making energy cards.
Soon, they arrived at Card Forger School. There were many schools in the First Military Academy. Each had a separate space of its own and was close to other schools. That was why the academy had a large campus.
As the cradle of Card Forgers, Card Forger School was held at an important place in the academy. Naturally, it took up the best space in the middle of the academy. The towering teaching buildings could be spotted from far away.
“Our class is at the north-east corner of the school in a separate building,” said Xu Ling.
In order for each class to take full advantage of the school’s resources and each student to have a place to practice, classes weren’t close to avoid interruption and malicious competition.
While Card Forger School was located in the best spot of the campus, there were classes that were at a better location than others. Class A, the best class had naturally the right to choose the most advantageous resources and location, and Class F was forced to a corner.
On Yu Jinli’s way here, what Jiang Mosheng told him gradually turned up in front of him.
Back in his previous world, though he hadn’t passed the college entrance exam, his sect-brother took him for a visit of all famous college.
In the past, he was jealous of those who could go to school, who could enjoy large campuses. Now he didn’t anymore.
The First Military Academy was worthy of its reputation as the best university of the Federation with not only a huge campus and towering teaching buildings but also a very beautiful environment. It was a pleasure to study in a place like this. Yu Jinli was proud that he was a member of the academy.
He was finally able to go to school as a college student. If his sect-brother and master shifu were here, he was going to show it off.
However, the thought of his sect-brother and master shifu cooled him down. He wondered how they were keeping. Were they sad after finding out about his death?
In fact, he wanted to tell his sect-brother and master shifu that he didn’t die, that he was in a new world, that he liked it here, and that he hoped they didn’t feel bad for him.
