Chapter 85: First Day at School
Walking past the main teaching building of Card Forger School, Xu Ling took Yu Jinli to a small building at the north-east corner.
“This is where you are going to have classes and trainings. Our school will have Card Forger Masters over as lecturers from time to time in the assembly hall,” introduced Xu Ling in detail.
At this time of the day, the campus was quiet since everyone was having classes. However, when Yu Jinli walked close to the teaching building where Class F was, he heard noisy laughter and quarrels.
Xu Ling had been used to that. She acted as if she heard nothing and went into the building directly. Inside, it was a bustling world while it was quiet as ever outside.
With the chasing and playing, chatting and joking, the noise twenty students made sounded like there were a hundred of them.
Yu Jinli followed Xu Ling.
The students were curious to see a new face. They dropped what they were doing and followed Yu Jinli, wondering why he was here.
As members of the famous loser class of Card Forger School, they were abandoned by the school. Therefore, no matter what they did, as long as they didn’t disturb other classes, no teachers would bother with them.
Usually, other students avoided their building so they rarely saw any new faces.
“Who is this? Why is he here?” asked a lanky young man.
“Not a new student, No? Haha, absolutely not,” guessed another young man who quickly denied himself with a joking laughter to cover up his awkward speculation.
As a loser class, no one would want to come here at all. Besides, it’s been two months since school started, students should have been enrolled no matter they got accepted through connections or exams. How could there be new students?
However, since Yu Jinli seemed to be at a similar age as they did, it was unlikely that he was a new teacher, so the students became even more curious about his identity.
Xu Ling took Yu Jinli and walked all the way to the classroom, where Class F took classes. However, it was empty except for a teacher who was lecturing by himself.
Looking at the empty classroom, Yu Jinli blinked in confusion.
Did Miss Xu say this was the classroom? Why were there no students inside? Was this break time, with a teacher lecturing?
Though Xu Ling had been used to it, she still looked awkward when she saw an empty classroom.
“Well, Mr. Yu.” Xu Ling was about to explain to Yu Jinli when someone from behind interrupted.
“Miss Xu, who is this? Why is he here?” Students of Class F gathered behind her as they watched Yu Jinli curiously.
Seeing that everyone was back in the classroom, she said hastily: “Go back to your seats. We have a new classmate today.”
“Wow!” Hearing that, students of Class F exclaimed in surprise.
So, this boy was indeed a new member of their class. After school started for two months, they had a newcomer with them.
Excited about that news, all the students went back to their seats as they examined Yu Jinli.
In an instant, the originally empty classroom was filled with students.
“We have a very liberal environment here.” Xu Ling explained to Yu Jinli, a bit uneasy.
Though students of Class F were not very talented, their family backgrounds were powerful. Therefore, no teacher dared to offend them or discipline them.
Xu Ling greeted the teacher who was giving lecture. The teacher stopped and stood aside, leaving space for Xu Ling and Yu Jinli.
“Mr. Yu, please introduce yourself,” said Xu Ling smilingly.
It was Yu Jinli’s first time at the teacher’s desk. He was a little nervous in front of the whole class.
“Nice, nice to meet you, I’m Yu Jinli.” He looked at the students a bit awkwardly, not knowing what to say next. He then turned to Xu Ling for help.
“From now on, Mr. Yu is a member of Class F. Hope you guys get along, learn from each other, and make progress together. Okay, Mr. Yu, pick a seat.” Xu Ling told him.
Having brought Yu Jinli here safely, she had completed her task. Not lingering for one more second, she gave the teacher’s desk back to the teacher who was giving lessons and left hastily.
The classroom was big with merely twenty students. There were several empty seats. Yu Jinli could pick any of those places as he liked as long as the person who shared the same desk didn’t object.
In a room full of unfamiliar faces, he was still nervous.
As a koi fish who only lived with his master shifu and sect-brother in his previous world, Yu Jinli considered himself an introvert. He seldom talked to strangers, nor did he know how to do it, so he chose a spot which was far away from everyone else.
Quietly, he put the schoolbag in the drawer, then took out stationeries Qiao Mulan prepared for him, ready for classes.
However, clearly, he was too naive. While the teacher was giving lectures as if he wasn’t disturbed by the students, the students all gather around Yu Jinli with all kinds of questions.
“School has started for two months. Why are you here so late?” asked a lovely girl.
“Your family name is Yu? Are you a member of Yu Family?” asked a chubby boy.
“Yu Family? That first-tier family?” Others chimed in.
Yu Jinli looked at all the unfamiliar faces around him. Not knowing what to do, he answered their questions one by one. As a result, he wasn’t able to listen to the lecture.
“Well... is it break time now?” asked Yu Jinli in a small voice. He blinked. If it was break time, it made sense that everyone could do whatever they wanted to do.
“No.” Someone answered, not knowing why he asked.
“Then why don’t you listen to the teacher?” Yu Jinli looked at the teacher who stood alone by his desk. He suddenly felt sorry for him.
That teacher, probably used to Class F, kept on with his lecture even though nobody listened to him.
“It’s useless. Besides, my family doesn’t expect me to become a Card Forger anyway.” A lanky youth shrugged as if he couldn’t care less.
“But you need to listen to the lecture. That’s what you are here for,” said Yu Jinli seriously. He didn’t approve their behavior.
He didn’t even have the opportunity to go to school before. These students had such an opportunity but didn’t value it. They had no idea how many people out there who wanted to go to school but couldn’t.
The discovery that Yu Jinli was a good boy was a bore to the students that gathered around him. Quickly, they dispersed and went on their merry way, going out and playing. Those who stayed in the classroom were still talking in small groups without the least interest in the lecture.
With a tight frown, Yu Jinli decided it was more important to turn his attention to the lecture rather than other students.
He was a new student who started in the middle of the course with scanty knowledge of Card Forgers. However, teachers wouldn’t help him make up missed lessons.
It was fair to say that none of the students of Class F kept up with the course for nobody ever listened to the lectures.
Therefore, after the class was over, Yu Jinli still had a few questions.
When the bell rang, signaling the end of a class, Yu Jinli wanted to go to the teacher and ask some questions. However, when he looked up, he found the teacher gathered his stuff and left quickly, without any intention to stay, which made Yu Jinli swallow back his questions.
The following classes were the same with students busy playing and teachers lecturing who didn’t ask questions or care about whether the students understand their lectures. Yu Jinli raised his hand to ask questions which was ignored by teachers who would disappear as soon as class was over. That shocked him.
After a day at school, he was suddenly confused.
Were all schools like this? Then why did so many students tried to get admitted to colleges with all efforts?
Nobody learned anything at college. Why the efforts?
Yu Jinli was still confused when he met Jiang Mosheng who came to take him home.
“How was school? Were your classmates friendly? Did anyone bully you?” As soon as Yu Jinli was in the car, he was bombarded by Jiang Mosheng’s questions, who wanted to know how he was at school, worried that he would be bullied.
Yu Jinli shook his head as he said: “No, but...”
“Hmm?” When Jiang Mosheng heard that, his heart jumped.
“Ah Sheng, everyone was so odd. They didn’t listen during classes. When I had a question for the teacher, the teacher didn’t answer. Are all classes like that?” asked Yu Jinli with a tight frown.
He went to school to learn about making energy cards. However, after a day, he had learned nothing but was left with unanswered questions.
If school was like that, he would rather quit and go to Master Kameng’s instead. At least, Master Kameng answered his questions.
Hearing that, Jiang Mosheng felt a bit awkward. He had heard about Class F of Card Forger School but it never occurred to him it had sunk to the bottom.
Originally, Jiang Mosheng thought it was already a big favor to ask the principal to schedule Yu Jinli an exam at this time of the school year. It would be unreasonable if he made extra demands. But now it seemed that the students of Class F were already affecting little chestnut’s studies.
If they behaved themselves and didn’t affect little chestnut, he wouldn’t say a word. But apparently, they did. Should he transfer little chestnut to a different class?
But when he thought of little chestnut’s current inner focus grade, if he transferred him to another class, little chestnut might receive more unkind judgment, which might not be a good thing for him.
