Chapter 64 That Type of Person
In the first week of autumn, the design department planned its annual outing for team building. This year’s outing was to have a picnic and camp over the weekend.
Because of her children, Lesly couldn’t spend the night outside. She could ask for leave from Ariel, hoping that she could miss out on this event.
"No." Ariel looked troubled. "You just came to the company, so you don’t have a close relationship with your colleagues. How can everyone get familiar with you if you don’t go to the outing? If you do this, everyone will be more dissatisfied with you in the future."
Lesly said, "But I really have something going on at home..."
"I also have something to do at home. My child has been admitted to the hospital, but you don’t see me taking leave. Ms. Atkins, the company values you very much. The president’s wife has great expectations for you. You can’t let the company down."
Ariel concluded her decision, "You must go to the outing. You can’t ask for leave. That’s it. I have other work to do. You can leave first."
Lesly did not leave. Her attitude became stronger. "The outing is not part of my work, so you don’t have the right to ask me to join."
Ariel’s face suddenly turned cold. "So you want to ignore me directly and miss out on the outing?"
Lesly lowered her chin and said calmly and firmly, "I have asked for leave, I did not ignore you. I hope that you can show the attitude of a deputy general manager. Don’t do anything that doesn’t match your status."
"Okay, Lesly." Ariel was so angry that her face turned red. "You’re insulting me, right? Okay, let’s contact the general manager now and see if it’s your fault or mine."
She called the general manager and said angrily, "General manager, this is Ariel. There is a problem. You should come over."
Soon, the general manager came. The president’s wife also came with him.
"What’s wrong? What happened?" The general manager walked in quickly. Seeing Lesly, he nodded politely. "Ariel, tell me. What happened?"
Ariel snorted and pointed at Lesly.
"Ask her."
Lesly said, "The department is planning an outing this weekend, but I have something to do at home this weekend. It’s not convenient for me to go. So I want to ask for leave, but she does not allow it."
All of a sudden, a sneer formed on Ariel’s lips. "Is that what you were saying just now? You said that you’ll only stay here for half a year as you’ll be leaving in half a year. So, joining the outing will just be a waste of your time. You said that don’t even need to be on good terms with your colleagues!"
The general manager’s face suddenly turned dark. "Lesly, do you really say that?"
"I didn’t!" Lesly denied. "I never said that."
After that, Lesly turned her head and looked at Ariel fiercely, "Why are you accusing me like this?"
"How am I accusing you?" Ariel pointed outside the office. "General Manager, go out and ask around. Does Lesly always arrive late at work and leave early? She often treats her colleagues with a bad attitude. She doesn’t take the company seriously at all!"
Isla, the chairman’s wife, also frowned. "I believe that Lesly is not that kind of person. She has the ability and the mindset..."
"Mrs. Pittman, I understand your kindness, but why don’t we call in our colleagues and see what they will say?"
Isla was doubtful. "Alright, I’ll ask."
There was a flash of pride in Ariel’s eyes as she said, "Then, you can choose anyone you like. Otherwise, Ms. Atkins will say that everything was arranged by me."
Isla called her assistant and ordered, "Go and call three people up. Don’t tell them what they are doing up there."
"Alright."
The assistant agreed and immediately walked out of the office.
