Swedum Is Poisoned
Outside the emergency room. Ceres and Johny waited anxiously. When they went out, Ceres was wearing pajamas and a pair of slippers. Johny immediately asked someone to bring Ceres the clothes. Ceres was distraught, staring at the LED which wrote: "IN OPERATION". Johny held her in his arms and comforted her, "Sit down and take a rest. Swedum will be fine. It’s common that children get sick because of what they eat." However, Ceres shook her head. "Johny, I feel very uneasy. I feel things are not that simple. Those kids get, at most, diarrhea, but Swedum has spit blood!" She didn’t want to tell Johny that she had a feeling that things might get worse. She hoped she had been overanxious because of the emergency. The doctor came out of the emergency room. Ceres and Johny immediately went up to him. The doctor said, "The child has been saved, but..." "But what?" The couple urgently asked in unison. "We cannot find the cause of it. We need to do more check-ups." A deep frown appeared on the doctor’s face. The doctor also felt that it was very confusing. "How come? Then what have you done for my child?" "We stopped him from spitting blood first. Now he’s in a stable condition, so we will send him to ICU. We’ll do more check-ups to find the cause. Don’t worry. We will do our best." Swedum was in ICU. His little face was deathly pale. He lay on the bed, sleeping soundly. Although he was doing okay, for the time being, Ceres and Johny worried about him very much. The nurse drew Swedum’s blood for check-ups. Ceres was painful seeing the blood being drawn from the Swedum’s arm. She wished she could replace him to endure all the pain. The doctor came over again and told Ceres, "The red bean roll is not poisonous. Think carefully about what he has eaten in the last three days?" Johny asked people at home to pack all the food in the house and sent them to the hospital for tests. Swedum woke up the next morning. When he woke up, he felt a little listless. When he realized he was in the hospital, he blinked. "Mommy, why am I here at the hospital?" "Swedum, you are sick. Tell me, how do you feel?" Swedum shook his head and replied, "I’m good. I just feel so sleepy and don’t want to get up. Can I not go to kindergarten today, Mom?" "Sure, you’re sick, so you can’t go to kindergarten. Now close your eyes and sleep for a while." "Alright." Not long after, Swedum fell asleep again. Ceres looked at Swedum with tears streaming down her face. Yesterday, he was fine, but today... Johny patted Ceres on the shoulder. "Don’t cry. You’re still recovering from giving birth. Crying is not good for your recovery." "I’m sorry, Johny. I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault." Ceres hugged Johny. "It has nothing to do with you. Don’t blame yourself." "No, it’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have hidden it from you. I should have let you investigate it!" "What?" Johny frowned. Ceres told Johny what Sofia had done that caused the premature birth. Johny was shocked, but he didn’t blame her for keeping it a secret from him. He knew Ceres very well. She just wanted to live a peaceful life, without being involved in any trouble, and that’s why she didn’t tell him. "Hawthorn gives people a good appetite, but it’s also a catalyst for contraction which leads to premature birth. All the food that Sofia provided me contained hawthorn. They might have schemed it to make sure my labor would happen at a certain time. But I didn’t expect that they would do something to Swedum as well. "Maybe it was their plan B in case Hawthorn doesn’t work on me." Ceres felt painfully regretful. If she or Johny had interrogated Sofia properly, or if she had known what would happen to Swedum, Swedum wouldn’t be sick or have to stay in the hospital right now. "Don’t blame yourself." Johny did not say anything. He knew that things might be very complicated. He had believed that Ceres’s premature birth was an accident, and it was just a coincidence that it happened at the same time his father passed away. He had believed that no one could control the timing of labor. He had doubted his father’s death. What a remarkable coincidence! Would it be a conspiracy? But now wasn’t the time to think about this. Swedum’s health was the most important thing. Johny immediately sent someone to find Sofia. The doctor got the results of the check-ups. In order not to upset Ceres, only Johny talked to the doctor in the office. "Mr. Johny, we got the result of your son’s check-ups. Our initial assessment is that he is poisoned, but all the things you brought over are not." "He also went to kindergarten. Do we need to check the things there?" Johny knew that they must find out how Swedum was poisoned. However, the doctor shook his head and said, "If it’s something at the kindergarten, he couldn’t be the only child who is sick. According to our initial assessment, it shouldn’t be food poisoning." "What initial assessment? Don’t you have a conclusion yet?" Johny understood what the doctor meant. The doctor nodded. "Indeed. It’s a rare situation. We might need to do a full body examination." "What’s going on with you? You’ve done so many check-ups, yet you still need more to reach a conclusion!" Johny roared. For the first time, he lost his temper. The doctor was a little frightened and hurriedly explained, "As I’ve just said, it’s a rare situation. We haven’t been in such situations before." Johny didn’t know what to say. It was the best pediatric hospital. The doctor sitting in front of him was the best pediatrician. He didn’t know who else he could turn to. "Alright, make things clear as soon as possible." Johny stood up and walked out of the office. He called Ruby again. Ruby was a doctor, who knew more about medicine than Johny did. Johny felt that he needed to let Ruby know and consult with him about this. Ceres watched helplessly the nurse drawing Swedum’s blood again and taking him to various places for check-ups. "Mommy, don’t cry. It doesn’t hurt," said Swedum as he wiped Ceres’s tears. Hearing Swedum’s words, Ceres could no longer hold back her tears. "It’s okay, Swedum. If it hurts, just tell me." "But it really doesn’t hurt. Mommy, I want you to go home and look after Kody. He’s a newborn baby, and he can’t leave you. You need to feed him milk." At the same time, the bodyguard came back and said that they had found Sofia.
